METHOD FOR ASSESSMENT OF FRUCTOSE INTOLERABILITY

A method for the assessment of fructose intolerability comprises the assay for hydrogen content in the expired air after consumption of test-solution of fructose with 30-min intervals within 3 hours. Four weeks before the test, antibacterial and laxative drugs and probiotics are discontinued. One day before the test, the food rich in the fibers is included into the ration. The respiratory tests with less concentrations of test solution ( of fructose in 250 mL of liquid) are performed on an empty stomach. The samples of the expired air are collected with 30-min intervals within 3-4 hours. The symptoms are assessed with the aid of visual-analogue scale. The data are compared with that obtained repeated measurements de novo. The increase of hydrogen content in the expired air by 20 ppm over the basal state or the consistent increase of hydrogen content in the expired air in three consecutive samples are indicative of fructose intolerability.
