PURPOSE: An anti-diabetic composition containing dihydroavenanthramide D is provided to suppress activation of NF-kappaB and to reduce nitric oxide generation. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing and treating diabetes contains dihydroavenanthramide D as an active ingredient. The diabetes is a type I diabetes. A composition is used for suppressing islet injury after transplantation of pancreas or pancreatic duct. The dihydroavenanthramide D is contained in .001-100 weight% based on total weight. The composition additionally contains a carrier, excipient and diluent. The composition is used in the form of oral administration formulation, external use formulation, and sterilization injection agent.
