<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of production by which an optically active alcohol can highly stereoselectively be obtained in good yield from a ketone compound that has heretofore been difficult to hydrogenate. <P>SOLUTION: A ruthenium complex RuCl[(S,S)-TsDPEN](p-cymene) represented by formula and the ketone compound are introduced into a polar solvent, and mixed under pressurized hydrogen to thereby hydrogenate the ketone compound, to produce an optically active alcohol. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
