PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a firmware-updating method and a power line carrier communication system which, when dividing firmware into a plurality of divided blocks and transmitting them to a slave station, is able to suppress the occurrence of missing blocks to make the success rate of updating improve and allow memory resources of the slave station to be reduced and further, early-detect the missing blocks. SOLUTION: A master station 10 successively transmits divided blocks to which identification information is given, to slave stations 20 at prescribed intervals by broadcasting, and each slave station 20 determines the occurrence state of missing blocks, on the basis of identification information of divided blocks received from the master station 10; the master station 10 acquires information about the occurrence state of missing blocks from the slave stations 20, each time it transmits two or more specified number of divided blocks, by broadcasting and retransmits missing blocks to a slave station 20, wherein the occurrence of missing blocks is determined by unicasting; and each slave station 10 limits reception of divided blocks when the number of missing blocks reaches a prescribed number.
