PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame arrester device having a wide gap between a flame arrester insert and an enclosing cage for removing the flame arrester insert easily and inhibiting the generation of backfire. SOLUTION: In a flame arrester device, at least one separate closed seal 11 is arranged between an arbitrary flame arrester insert 6 and a housing 1 or between two flame arrester inserts 6 in such a way that a flow around the flame arrester insert 6 in a space 12 located radially outside a passage gap is prevented.
