PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner which hardly causes a damper force reduction due to air mixture, even if the position of the upper portion of the tensioner varies after being assembled. SOLUTION: A plunger 10 is slidably inserted in a cylinder 9. A sleeve 16 whose both ends are open is coaxially mounted in the cylinder 9. A plunger 10 is axially and slidably fitted on the outer circumference of the sleeve 16. The end of the sleeve 16 on the closed-end side of the cylinder 9 is connected to the oil outlet of an oil supply path 18 through which a hydraulic oil is introduced from the outside of the cylinder 9 to the inside thereof. A check valve 20 is mounted at the end of the sleeve 16 on the open-end side of the cylinder 9. A pressure chamber 23 into which the hydraulic oil flows through the check valve 20 is provided in the plunger 10. A leak clearance 24 through which the hydraulic oil in the pressure chamber 23 is drained is formed between the sliding surfaces of the plunger 10 and sleeve 16. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
