<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engagement device which can reduce shock and sound in releasing engagement, and can release engagement within a short time. <P>SOLUTION: The device includes: a first engagement element which is linked to a rotating body and rotates together with the rotating body; a second engagement element to be disposed opposite to the first engagement element and to be engaged with the first engagement element while having backlash in a rotating direction therebetween; and a control unit for controlling an engagement operation and a release operation between the first engagement element and the second engagement element, wherein the control unit determines whether or not the first engagement element and the second engagement element are in contact with each other in the rotating direction when a direction for starting the release operation is input during the engagement operation. The problem is solved by separating the first engagement element and the second engagement element by moving at least one of the first engagement element and the second engagement element to a direction parallel with a rotation axis when it is determined that both elements are not in contact with each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
