PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which controls posture of a transfer material, and prevents contamination of a printing surface, while preventing degradation of image quality. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a transfer belt 40 to which an image is transferred; a secondary transfer roller 61 which transfers the image transferred to the transfer belt 40 onto the transfer material; a transfer material gripping mechanism 610 which grips the transfer material before the transfer material is inserted between the transfer belt 40 and the secondary transfer roller 61, and also releases the gripped transfer material after the transfer material is inserted between the transfer belt 40 and the secondary transfer roller 61; an air blower 400 which is provided between the transfer belt 40 and the secondary transfer roller 61, and also discharges air flow toward the surface, onto which the image of the transfer material released by the transfer material gripping mechanism 610 has been transferred; and a fixing unit 90 which fixes the image on the transfer material that receives the air flow discharged from the air blower 400.
