<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device capable of preventing a guide member guiding conveyance of an intermediate transfer belt in the transfer device from being damaged and peeled off and preventing the intermediate transfer belt from meandering to form a high grade image, and to provide an image forming apparatus employing the same. <P>SOLUTION: A transfer unit 6 used in the image forming apparatus 100 includes the intermediate transfer belt 61 on which the toner image formed on a photosensitive member drum 3 is temporarily transferred, a roller member stretching the intermediate transfer belt 61, and the belt-like guide member 610 guiding conveyance of the intermediate transfer belt 61. The guide member 610 is constituted by butting ends 611, 612 continuously, and the ends 611, 612 include vertical faces 611a1, 611a2, 612a1, 612a2 and inclined faces 611b, 612b for the direction of belt advance, respectively.
