PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a top light emission type organic electro-luminescent element which prevents spot-form injury badness due to foreign-matters or surface-irregularities stuck on its shadow mask when forming its organic light emission layer, and to provide a method for manufacturing the element. SOLUTION: Firstly, the electro-luminescent element includes a buffer pattern formed so as to be given in a boundary of its pixel region while overlapping with an edge of a first electrode. Secondly, it includes a first spacer formed so as to be given a first height in the top of the buffer pattern while having a dam-form shape in a first direction. Thirdly, it includes a second spacer formed so as to be given the first height in the top of the buffer pattern while having another dam-form shape in a second direction intersecting the first direction. Fourthly, it includes a third spacer formed so as to be given a second height larger than the first height in the top of the buffer pattern while having a pillar shape in a portion where a second spacer intersects the first spacer. Fifthly, it includes the organic light emission layer formed inside the buffer pattern and in the top of the first electrode. Sixthly, it includes a second electrode formed whole-surface-wise in the tops of the organic light emission layer and the first, second, and third spacers. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
