PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which can stabilize luminance of light-emitting pixels, and to provide a method for driving the organic electroluminescent element.

SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element includes scanning lines (17) and pixels arranged so as to correspond to the scanning lines (17) and contain an organic electroluminescent material. Of these pixels, ones the number of which to be emitted is equal to or larger than a threshold are divided to emit light.
