PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and program for image interpolation, which can accurately interpolate pixel data at a place corresponding to a connection portion of contact image sensors. SOLUTION: In an image interpolation processing, (1) a missing pixel is assumed at a head or tail in a basic frame. (2) As pixels used for the temporal interpolation of a missing pixel X(A<SB>n</SB>) of a basic pattern 10x, two pixels located on both sides of the missing pixel are used. As pixels used for the temporal interpolation of a comparative pattern, three pixels in a comparative pattern 10y1 are used, wherein one is located at a place corresponding to the missing pixel and others are at the same positions as those of the pixels at both sides of the missing pixel. A temporal interpolation value in accordance with the signal levels and the signal variation amount of these pixels is calculated and set. (3) In pattern matching processing, absolute differences between pixels in the basic pattern 10x in which a temporal interpolation value is set in a missing pixel X(A<SB>n</SB>) by the processing (2) and the corresponding pixels in the comparative pattern 10y1, both pixels being in the same positional relation to each set, are summed up.
