PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition system of an engine and a control method of the same, improved in starting stability in a state that temperature of the engine is low. SOLUTION: The ignition system of the engine includes an ignition device that uses a current supplied to an ignition coil to generate flame in a combustion chamber, a starting detecting part detecting a starting signal for starting the stopped engine, a cooling water temperature detecting part detecting cooling water temperature of the engine and an electric power control part increasing a dwell time of the current that is supplied to the ignition coil for a time set after beginning the starting when the starting signal is detected and the cooling water temperature is below a set temperature. The set time is within 10 ms, the set temperature is equal to or lower than 0 degree Celsius, a dwell time initially set is 1.7 ms, and an increased dwell time is 2.4 ms.
