PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing ink composition not inferior to a vegetable oil ink by replacing the vegetable oil with a non-edible and recyclable vegetable resource in the vegetable oil ink such as soybean oil ink, etc. SOLUTION: This varnish for printing ink containing a resin for the printing ink, the vegetable oil and a solvent is characterized by containing a trihydric alcohol ester of a tall oil fatty acid and also having≤15 wt.% content of rosin in the tall oil fatty acid. Further, the varnish for printing ink is characterized by containing the trihydric alcohol ester of the tall oil fatty acid, without containing the vegetable oil and also having≤15 wt.% content of rosin in the tall oil fatty acid.
