An adapter assembly 500 for connecting a fluid supply assembly to a fluid applicator comprises an outer lid 508 with an integral cylindrical fitting 555 with an opening with a connector 565 on its inner surface, a disposable inner lid 575 for the fluid supply assembly and an adapter 510 with a cylindrical lower section 570 with a connector 535 complementary to and adapted to mate with the connector 565 on the inner surface of the cylindrical fitting in the outer cap 508. One connector comprises projections and the other complementary grooves. The adapter assembly 500 provides a connection between the fluid supply assembly and the fluid applicator that can be engaged quickly, easily, and securely, and which has a strong tight seal around the connection.
