PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking device which can firmly lock a spherical body with a small force by a simple operation. SOLUTION: The locking device rotatably holds a spherical body and locks it where necessary. The device has a holder portion 11 for rotatably holding the spherical body 14, a presser member 20 placed so as to be capable of being brought into and out of contact with the spherical body, and a presser means 23 for pressing the presser member toward the spherical body. The presser member has a presser block 21 actuated by the presser means and a stopper piece 22 mounted on the pressure-contact surface of the presser block so as to be movable a given distance circumferentially. The stopper piece is pressed toward the spherical body by the presser means via the presser block. The surface of the stopper piece that makes contact with the spherical body forms the same spherical surface as the spherical body. The surface of the stopper piece that makes contact with the presser block forms a spherical surface having a curvature milder than that of the spherical body. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
