<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin light emitting device having suppressed thermal deterioration. <P>SOLUTION: This light emitting device includes a light emitting element, a pair of conductive members having top surfaces electrically connected to the light emitting element, a substrate to hold the conductive members so as to expose the under surfaces thereof, and the light emitting element is mounted on the top surface of the substrate through a pedestal member having thermal conductivity higher than that of the substrate.
