PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small position detector capable of precisely detecting a position of a magnet having various magnetization pitches λ without mechanically changing an interval of magnetoelectric transducers. SOLUTION: The position detector includes a linear magnet having reversing magnetic poles alternately disposed at a predetermined equal pitch and movable in an extended direction having the reversing magnetic poles alternately disposed; a first magnetoelectric transducer disposed at a predetermined interval from the magnet in a manner to face a magnetized surface of the magnet; and a second magnetoelectric transducer disposed at a predetermined interval from the magnet in a manner to face the magnetized surface of the magnet. The first magnetoelectric transducer detects a magnetic flux density in a direction perpendicular to the magnetized surface of the magnet, and the second magnetoelectric transducer detects the magnetic flux density in a moving direction of the magnet, thereby allowing precise detection of the position of the magnet having the various magnetization pitches λ without changing a disposition interval of the magnetoelectric transducers.
