PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optically couple an optical element and an optical transmission line such as an optical fiber in an easy and favorable way. SOLUTION: The optical coupling structure includes a top end of an optical fiber 1 comprising a core 1 and a clad 2 covering the core, and an optical element 42 optically coupled with the top end of the optical fiber 1, and is characterized in that: the core 2 in the top end region of the optical fiber 1 is exposed by removing the clad 3 in the top end region of the optical fiber 1; while the exposed core 2 and the optical element 42 are disposed opposing to each other via a gap, the exposed core 2 and the optical element 42 are aligned along the optical axis by using an optical means allowing observation in at least two directions; then at least the exposed core 2 and the optical element 42 are covered with a transparent resin 5 having a refractive index smaller than that of the core 2 and larger than that of air to fix the top end of the optical fiber 1 and the optical element 42 via the transparent resin 5.
