摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manganese phosphate lithium cathode active material superior in discharge performance and a lithium secondary battery using it without using Co which is scarce metal in large quantities as a raw material. SOLUTION: As a cathode active material for lithium secondary battery, a compound wherein a part of Mn of manganese phosphate lithium (LiMnPO<SB>4</SB>) is substituted with Co by less than 3 atom% is used. It is desirable that a part of Mn is substituted with Co by 1 atom% or less, and preferably less than 1 atom%.
