PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil well fracturing agent useful for enhancing oil production and promoting oil well fracturing. SOLUTION: The oil well fracturing agent contains galactomannans formed by depolymerizing galactomannan-type polysaccharide polymers and xanthan, preferably galactomannans, by irradiation with high energy electron beams and having a preselected lower molecular weight (100,000 to 250,000 Dalton), a crosslinking agent such as an organic metal borate and an organic metal titanate, and proppants (supports).
