PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a chlorosilyl group-having ethylnorbornene compound, by which the highly pure chlorosilyl group-having ethylnorbornene compound can efficiently be produced in high selectivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the chlorosilyl group-having ethylnorbornene compound represented by formula (2) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>groups are each identically or differently a 1C-3C substituted or non-substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group; (n) is an integer of 0-2], comprising reacting 5-vinyl-2-norbornene with a chlorosilane represented by HSiR<SP>1</SP><SB>n</SB>Cl<SB>3-n</SB>[wherein, R<SP>1</SP>groups are each identically or differently a 1C-3C substituted or non-substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group; (n) is an integer of 0-2] in the presence of platinum or a platinum compound as a catalyst, is characterized by performing the reaction in the presence of a -C≡N having compound and/or a -C(=O)-N= bond-having compound.
