<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lock device avoiding any increase in a size of the lock device while reliably avoiding any interference of a pawl with an upper jaw portion. <P>SOLUTION: The lock device comprises a striker 3 and a locking mechanism 20. The locking mechanism 20 is equipped with: a base plate 22 having a recess 21 capable of receiving the striker 3; a hook having an abutting part 50a and a holding part 60a for holding the striker 3; a pawl 30 for holding the hook in a locking state; and a drive-in plate 40. A pawl supporting shaft 24 is arranged on the recess 21 side from a hook supporting shaft 25 in the opening direction of the recess 21. The holding part 60a is turned in the same plate as that of the pawl 30 while the abutting part 50a is not on the same plane as that of the pawl 30, and thus, the abutting part 50a and the pawl 30 can be superposed in the thickness direction.
