PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor having superior insulation properties while reduced in size. SOLUTION: When a brush holding section for holding brushes 12, 13 being in slide contact with the outer periphery surface of a commutator 6 is arranged on the other end side of a brush holder unit 8, terminal plates 10, 11 insert-molded to the brush holder unit 8 are exposed to the brush holding section, inner diameter side end faces 10c, 11c of the exposed section are also exposed to the inner periphery surface of a through hole 8a in the brush holder unit 8, and a tapered surface 8h is formed as a creeping distance securing means for securing a creeping distance between the inner diameter side end faces 10c, 11c and the side of a bracket 7 in the through hole 8a of the brush holder unit 8.
