PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of sucking even dust in the grooves of flooring and the deep parts of carpet bristles without increasing power consumption. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes: suction force setting means 60 for setting the suction force of an electric blower 2 which generates suction air; control means (not shown in Fig.) for controlling the electric blower 2, based on the suction force set by the suction force setting means 60; a suction tool 8 having a suction port 11, and sucking the dust on a floor surface to be cleaned from a suction port 11 by suction air generated by the electric blower 2; and a shutter 12 for adjusting the opening area of the suction port 11. The shutter 12 narrows the opening area of the suction port 11 when the suction force set by the suction force setting means 60 is less than a predetermined threshold Pa. Even when the suction air rate of the electric blower 2 is lower, a suction air speed at the suction port 11 is secured by narrowing the opening area of the suction port 11.
