<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce exhaustion noise and exhaustion pressure loss while retaining the purification performance of a catalyst at a high level by improving the structure of the honeycomb support itself. <P>SOLUTION: A low-cell-density portion 12 lower in cell density than in the upstream is formed in the downstream in the flowing direction of exhaust gas.
