<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve convenience and security in an authentication system. <P>SOLUTION: (1) At first, a user inputs several digits of his/her own identification number to a touch panel 112 of a fingerprint authentication terminal 110. For example, the user inputs four digits of an 8-digit ID number. A fingerprint authentication apparatus 200, based on the ID number input to the touch panel 112, narrows down personal information to be collated with fingerprint data of the user and decides a collation threshold value. (2) Then, the user puts a finger on a fingerprint sensor 111 of the fingerprint authentication terminal 110. The fingerprint authentication apparatus 200 collates the fingerprint data read by the fingerprint sensor 111 with the respective personal information narrowed down based on the ID number. (3) If a collation rate (the degree of concordance) is not less than the collation threshold value, the fingerprint authentication apparatus 200 authenticates the user as a valid user. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
