A method and optical line terminal for adjusting ranging values and recovering in a passive optical network system are disclosed. The method includes: an optical line terminal obtains a difference value of equalization delay between the primary path and the backup path and broadcasts the difference value of equalization delay to a plurality of optical network units (S202); the optical network unit adjusts the local ranging value based on the received difference value of equalization delay (S204). With the invention, the problem can be resolved that the time for ranging re-measuring and transmitting EqD (equalization delay) is excessive long when the transmission path has failure and the protection switching is needed in the correlative technique, thereby, the result that the ranging value is quick adjusted by an optical network unit can be realized when the primary path has failure.
