[Classes 113 (i) and 113 (ii).] In trunk ships in which the side walls F of the trunk incline first upwards in a straight slope and are then angled outwards, the transverse frames K, some of which may be stiffened by deep webs h, supporting the trunk walls are extended downwards to meet the main transverse members L clear of the freeboard deck platforms E. At their upper ends the frames K are connected to the trunk top transverse beams with ot without knee plates. A spare above the platform and outboard the sides of the trunk may be enclosed to provide water ballast wing tanks which may be stiffened with closely spaced longitudinal frames and widely spaced webs. The hatch-covers Y are mounted on rollers to run on to beams Z beyond the trunk sides. The fore and aft knuckle line at the junction of the upper and lower portion of the trunk side walls is without sheer. The trunk erection is arranged with a greater volume in its after half length.</p> |
