Disclosed is an oily base agent for cosmetic material that contains an ester compound comprising a polyhydric alcohol and a fatty acid. The ester compound comprises pentaerythritol and isononanoic acid, and the molar ratio between the pentaerythritol residue and the isononanoic acid residue in the ester compound is 1.0:2.3-1.0:4.0. Said base agent for cosmetic material has an appropriately light oily feel, no unpleasant stickiness, excellent safety and adherence to the skin, and excellent compatibility with oils, especially silicone oil. When mixed into various cosmetic materials, it not only provides an appropriate degree of emollient properties and moisture retention properties to the cosmetic material but also provides a smooth feel with use, good safety and adherence to the skin, lasting cosmetic effects, and storage stability.
