In this manner, a reverse gear-change stage is prevented from being formed even if the reverse range is inadvertently selected when the detection unit (7) has failed. As a result, reverse inhibition control can be achieved even if the detection unit (7) that detects the shift range selected by the shift selection unit (6) fails, and this is achieved by means of a structure which does not employ a cut-off valve.
