Disclosed is a wireless communication device wherein communication quality can be improved by reducing a wireless communication volume between a relay station and a base station. The wireless communication system (1) is provided with a relay station (10), a first base station (20), a second base station (31, 32), and a mobile station (2). The relay station (10) is connected with the first base station (20) by wireless and communicates with the second base station (31, 32) via the first base station (20). When the relay station (10) communicates with the second wireless base station (31, 32), the relay station (10) requests the first wireless base station (20) to carry out proxy communication with the second wireless base station (31, 32). The requested first wireless base station (20) communicates with the second wireless base station on behalf of the relay station (10) and transmits a communication result to the relay station (10).
