The present invention discloses a method and a system for payment based on a network television terminal, wherein the method comprises: a set-top box (STB) provides an electronic program guide (EPG) interface for a user to select a service, and informs the service operator of the service the user has selected to pay for; a payment input terminal transmits the bank account, the account password and the payment amount inputted by the user to the STB; the STB constructs a payment request data packet according to the received bank account, the account password, the payment amount and the service the user has selected to pay for, and transmits it to a payment institution; the payment institution parses the data after it has received the payment request data packet, performs a payment cutting process if it is determined that the parsed bank account matches with the password, and then informs the service operator that the user has paid for the service he selects to pay for. The present invention enhances the using experience of users without binding a payment card with an internet protocol television (IPTV) STB.
