<p>Provided is a fast-response liquid crystal shutter that solves the problem of not being able to reduce light leakage. In each liquid crystal element (2a, 2b), there are two substrates (5a, 5b), and an oriented film (7a) applied to the substrate (5a) that is adjacent to the other liquid crystal element is oriented horizontally, while an oriented film (7b) applied to the other substrate (5b) is oriented vertically. Also, the horizontally-oriented film applied to a substrate (5a) of one liquid crystal element (2b), on which a polarizer (3) is provided, is oriented in a direction parallel to the light transmission axis of an analyzer (4), and the horizontally-oriented film applied to a substrate (5a) of the other liquid crystal element (2a), on which the analyzer (4) is provided, is oriented in a direction parallel to the light transmission axis of the polarizer (4). Additionally, liquid crystal materials (6) in the liquid crystal elements (2a, 2b) have positive dielectric constant anisotropy and are twisted in directions opposite to each other.</p> |
