Disclosed are a label printer and a printing method therefor which produce labels (16, 17, 18) of different pitch lengths P, 2P, 3P using one type of continuous label body (2), and which can limit cost by not requiring that multiple types of label paper be kept on hand. With the aim of forming labels of any pitch length by selecting only the desired number of multiple unit labels (2A), the printer is characterized by comprising a supply unit that is filled with a continuous label body (2) in which multiple unit labels (2A) are joined with perforations (14), a detector that detects a position detection mark (13) provided at a specified pitch on the back side of the unit labels (2A), an input unit that inputs the number of unit labels (2A) required and product information, a printing unit that can print the product information across any number of unit labels (2A), and a controller that makes it possible to form labels (16, 17, 18) by printing, with the printing unit, the product information onto any number of unit labels (2A) according to the number of unit labels (2A) and the number of position detection marks (13). |
