Method for operating a mobile piece of furniture

The electric drive system opens and closes a drawer (2) in a piece of furniture (1). It incorporates an electric motor with a reduction gear (3) and a toothed belt (10) and pinion (9) drive. The electric motor is connected to an electronic control circuit which gradually increases the motor current to a maximum value for starting movement of the drawer. It holds a constant value for constant speed of movement and reverses the current for braking at the end of the drawer travel. A sensor may detect a rise in motor current due to slowing of the drawer on hitting an obstruction.
