A media enhanced shopping cart power management system comprising: (a) a shopping cart comprising a frame, a basket, a handle, a base tray, a plurality of wheels, and a basket comprising a bottom, two side walls, a nose comprising a front wall, and a rear comprising a rear wall; (b) a computing device comprising a central processing unit, a memory, a network transceiver configured for wireless communication wherein the computing device is affixed to the shopping cart; (c) an inventory component for determining an inventory contained by the cart comprising a scanner; (d) a locationing component for determining a location of the cart; (e) a display component operably coupled to the computing device comprising a screen comprising a viewable area; and (f) a motion detection component for hibernating and reactivating at least one of (b), (c), (d) and (e) based on whether the cart is in motion in order to conserve power.
