The device has pre-diluter (6) for mixing a sample flow branched off from the gas stream, with particle-free diluting gas. An evaporator (7) is set at downstream of pre-diluter. A secondary diluter (8) for mixing the sample flow with additional particle-free diluting gas, is mounted between the outlet of the evaporator from which the sample flow is branched off for particle counter (5).
