<p>A system for managing patient analyte data comprises a host computer (14);
a plurality of handheld analytc test instruments (10, 20, 86);
a plurality of docking stations (12, 70, 84) for receiving a respective instrument (10, 20, 86); and a data communication network linking the plurality of docking stations (12, 70, 84) with the host computer (14). Each instrument has a housing (22), a port (36) disposed in the housing (22) for receiving a test strip (40), electronic circuitry in electrical communication with the port (36) for processing an analyte signal received from the test strip (40) and generating analyte data therefrom, and a data port connector (38) provided in the instrument to allow for data transfer. Each docking station has a docking connector (76) electrically connectable to the data port connector (38) of the instrument (10, 20, 86) for receiving analytc data therefrom when said instrument (10, 86) is docked in the docking station (12, 70, 84), and a first data port (80) electrically connectable to the host computer (14) for transmitting the received analyte data from the instrument (10, 86) to the host computer (14). Analyte data is automatically uploaded to the host computer (14), via the data communication network link, when an instrument (10, 20, 86) is docked in the docking station (12, 70, 84).</p> |
