发明名称 Improvements in envelope making machines
摘要 394,474. Cutting paper webs. NEWELL, E., Port Credit, Ontario, Canada. May 17, 1932, No. 13974. [Class 31 (i).] In an envelope-making machine in which a paper web is passed between rotatable members having at both ends overlapping faces each formed with a segmental flange, the said members are so arranged and driven that the segmental flange of each face registers with the unflanged portion of the opposing end face so that side recesses with smooth edges are sheared out from the web so as to provide envelope blank flap portions at the longitudinal edges of the web. A web of paper is led from a reel 1 between fountains 5, 6, colouring fluid being applied to the web by rolls 7 .. 10. The web then passes to embossing rollers 13, 14 and printing rollers 15, 16, 17. The side edges of the web are next cut by cutting rollers 19, 20, having cutting flanges 21, 22, strips being cut off at 2x to leave intervening side flaps 2‹. Creasing means, consisting of discs 23 engaging ' in grooves of a drum 25 now slightly turn up the side flaps 2o, a pressure bar 29 holding the main portion of the web flat. Arched plates 30 bevelled on their inner under surfaces and fixed to a bar 31, now engage the partly turned-up side flaps and lay them over on to the bevelled edges of a bar 32, the flaps being ironed down by rollers 33. The flaps are now gummed by rollers 60. The web now reaches the folding rollers 34, 53 and cutting roller 36. The folding roller 34 comprises creasing grooves 38 :. 41 at the inner ends of which are mounted rocking gripper shafts 42 .. 45. Attached to a fixed support is a member carrying cam surfaces, upon which a tail member of each shaft 42 .. 45 bears, due to spring pressure, to hold the appropriate shaft in the non-gripping position. As the web is led onwardly, the cutter 35 cuts it transversely, the portion of the web on each side of the cut being positively separated by means of a bar 54, countersunk in the roller 34, being raised by a cam 58 operating on spring- urged bars 56, pivoted at 55, which through pin-and-slot connections 56<x> move the arms which operate the bar 54. The leading edge of the cut blank is thus raised and moves along a table 53<x>; the blade 36<x> now tucking the fold x into the creasing groove 38 where the cam-operated bar 42 grips it. On further movement of the rollers 34, 53 the blank, gripped at 38, advances until the blade 52 enters the creasing groove 39 to form the crease y, the leading part of the blank having been folded backwardly in passing the edge of the table 53<x>, on to the inturned gummed flaps 2‹. A gummer on roller 53 applies gum to the flap z of the envelope. The creasing grooves with the corresponding shafts 42, 43 and 44, 45 operate alternately.
