A lithium secondary battery is provided to inhibit an increase in irreversible capacity caused by a compound produced in the first charge/discharge cycle, to prevent a drop in discharge capacity, and to realize high capacity and improved high rate charge/discharge characteristics. A lithium secondary battery comprises: a cathode; an anode comprising an anode active material containing a metal substance capable of forming an alloy with lithium; and an electrolyte containing an additive capable of dissolving the oxide of the metal substance. The anode is formed by dissolving an oxide in which the metal substance is oxidized to a predetermined degree into the additive. The additive is selected from the group consisting of acids, bases, fluorides and mixtures thereof. |
