FIELD: process engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of high-quality powders of heat-resistant metals. In compliance with proposed method, powder containing magnesium tantalate and/or niobate is produced. Said powder is heated in inert atmosphere in the presence of magnesium, calcium and/or aluminium to temperature sufficient for removal of magnesium tantalate and/or magnesium niobate from the powder, and/or it is heated in vacuum to temperature sufficient for removal of magnesium tantalate and/or magnesium niobate from the powder.
