Solutions of polyacrylonitrile or acrylonitrile copolymers in a solvent, such as dimethyl formamide, are heat stabilized by the addition thereto of a small quantity, e.g. 0.1-2 per cent based on polymer, of monomeric styrene or one of its derivatives substituted in the benzene nucleus.
