The arm (9) has a thrust surface contacting a ball during movement of a projection, where the thrust surface comprises two vertically spaced thrust zones. The upper thrust zone is formed of two horizontally spaced surface elements i.e. upper studs (13a, 13b). A spacing is provided between the horizontally spaced surface elements. The lower thrust zone is formed of two horizontally spaced surface elements that comprise a cylindrical portion that is surrounded by a truncated portion. An independent claim is also included for a ball launching apparatus including a launching arm.
