PURPOSE: A sensor node and a method for controlling a sensing cycle of a sensor network using the same are provided to control the sensing cycle according to the residual energy of the sensor node, thereby extending total lifetime of a sensor network. CONSTITUTION: A communication unit(220) receives residual energy information from child nodes. A sensing cycle controlling unit(230) controls sensing cycle of the child nodes through the residual energy information. A node selection unit(231) selects child nodes over predetermined value as a first child node group for performing sending operation per sensing cycle. A sensing cycle determiner(234) determines sensing cycle of each child node within a second node group.
