PURPOSE: An ignition system of an engine and a control method thereof are provided to stabilize the combustion characteristic and improve starting stability by increasing a dwell time for a fixed time immediately after start. CONSTITUTION: A control method of an ignition system is as follows. A trigger signal for starting an engine is sensed(S11). The temperature of coolant is sensed. If the coolant temperature is lower than the fixed temperature, the dwell time of current provided to an ignition coil for a fixed time from the point of time when the engine starts to operate(S12).
