The pillar has a center pillar reinforcement (6) comprising a bottom wall (7) encircled by two lateral walls (8, 9) and having a U-shaped cross-section, where the reinforcement is made of pressed sheet metal. The reinforcement comprises a spacer (10) i.e. U-shaped sheet metal part, which extends between the lateral walls of the reinforcement. The spacer is situated in alignment of upper hinges of front and rear doors, when the hinges of the doors are assembled on a body shell of a motor vehicle. The spacer has two wings (11, 12) extending perpendicular to the length of the center pillar.
