PURPOSE: A unit cooler having an intelligent defrost function, capable of the reduction of cooling energy loss of a large size refrigerating system, is provided to operate a heater to remove frost and to stop driving of the heater once frost is removed. CONSTITUTION: A unit cooler having an intelligent defrost function comprises an evaporator(12), a blower, a heater, a sensor unit and a controller. The evaporator comprises a cooling fin. The blower is installed in one side of the evaporator and blows so that surrounding air pass through the cooling fin. The heater removes frost from the cooling fin. The sensor unit outputs a signal according to a check result on the frost generation of the cooling fin. The sensor unit is composed of a light transmitter and a receptor(62) mounted on both sides of the central part of the cooling fin.
