PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader achieving further energy saving by reducing power consumption in reading an image, and also to provide an image forming device including the image reader. SOLUTION: An image reading section 1 is equipped with: an ADF 10 sequentially feeding a plurality of documents P having an image to be read; a light source 24a for illuminating the documents P fed by the ADF 10; and a CCD sensor 28 for receiving light from the documents P to obtain image data, the light being obtained by illuminating the documents P. In the image reading section, dimming control for reducing a quantity of light of the light source in a gap between one document P fed by the ADF 10 and the other document P fed following the one document P is performed.
