PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator capable of compactifying a size by shortening a separation distance between positive and negative ion generating parts, and capable of diffusing efficiently an ion when disposed in flowing air, and an air conditioner equipped therewith. SOLUTION: Openings 1a, 1a for releasing the positive and negative ions generated respectively by the positive and negative ions generating parts 2, 3 to an outside are formed in different sloped faces of a case (wind guide member) 1 of a quadrangular prism shape, to restrain the ions from being recoupled by releasing the positive and negative ions along different directions. The case 1 wind-guides the air to the openings 1a, 1a released respectively with the positive and negative ions, and the positive and negative ions released into the wind-guided air flow respectively together with air flows, for example, to the different directions K3c, K3d, to restrain the ions from being recoupled and to promote the diffusion of the ions.
